Adopt Coco

Podenco · Female · Adult · 8 years

Animal shelter Tanamera: Input March 11, 2026: Coco was found in the village at the end of November, weak and very thin, probably dumped. Because an older dog is no longer so good for breeding new puppies. It is clearly visible that she has had quite a few litters. A kind Spanish man took her home and brought her to a sort of garage. The next day we were called, and we picked up Coco. She was scared, but mainly weak. Her diarrhea was terrible! That evening she wasn't doing well anymore, and we rushed her to the vet. She had to stay on the drip for several days and also had anemia. But of course she is a survivor, it can't be otherwise if you have lived with a hunter for 9 years! Coco recovered quickly, and before we knew it we had to watch her weight. It's not intended for the lady to become a fat one! Slowly she is getting used to us. She walks super on a leash, but still finds new people scary. This also applies to the car. But what an ability to adapt she has shown in such a short time! In experienced hands she will show great progress. Coco gets along very well with other dogs, so a confident companion would be very nice for her! Because Coco unfortunately became pregnant after her recovery, she is not yet spayed and we are waiting a bit. But if she is reserved, of course it will be done immediately! Coco tested negative for Mediterranean diseases.

Haar diarree was verschrikkelijk!

About Coco

What life with Coco looks like

Coco is a adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Coco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Coco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Coco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Coco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Coco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Coco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Coco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
