Adopt Colby

Brittany Spaniel · Male · Young · 3 years

Update 16.12.2025: Colby was found in March in very poor condition. He was extremely thin and had almost no fur. But look at him now – he has made an incredible transformation and has grown into a truly handsome boy. Colby shows all the typical traits of his breed, the Brittany Spaniel. He has a strong hunting instinct, is smart and loves to be active. He walks well on a leash and is food-motivated. Colby is very people-oriented and affectionate. His best friend is Perla and the two of them get along wonderfully. At the moment, Colby is not part of a larger group, but he does well in smaller social settings. Unfortunately, Colby has been diagnosed with Leishmaniosis, but with regular medication his condition is controlled and he is doing well. Colby is an energetic, friendly dog who is always ready for his next adventure – and ready to find a loving home of his own. Update 2.5.2025: See how he is slowly getting better! See how his skin improves! See his smile! His story: Tied up outside this morning, this lost soul, who is quite young , looks as if he’s been through a few world wars….poor thing! We’ll take care of you. Brittany Spaniels are just darling cuckoo but darling. Welcome Colby! The first test results came in: super high Leishmania Teeter, kidney dysfunction, anemia, scabies…

About Colby

What life with Colby looks like

Colby is a medium-sized young adult brittany spaniel dog waiting at Souda Shelter in Chania.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Leishmaniosis - requires regular medication but condition is controlled

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Colby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Colby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Souda Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Colby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Colby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Souda Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Colby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Colby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Souda Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Colby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
