Columbia

Female · Adult · 4 years

Columbia is searching for her forever home Name: Columbia Age: 4 years Gender: female dog (will be spayed) Breed: American Bully Pocket Current location: currently with us, for about 1 year Character Columbia is an extremely people-oriented, loyal soul. She loves being by her people's side at all times and seeks closeness, security, and attachment. Being alone is not her thing – she wants to belong. Health & Exercise Columbia is not a dog for long or extensive walks. Due to her shortened airways, temperatures above about 20 °C are very challenging for her. Heat is very stressful for her. On the other hand, she loves snow ❄️ Therefore, she is not suitable for very active people or families with a high need for exercise. Compatibility with Others Columbia cannot be kept with other dogs. She was bitten before and has since become incompatible. Horse feed is what she tolerates best. Attempts to reintroduce her have shown that she becomes extremely stressed during these processes – so much so that she has hurt herself out of excitement. For her own protection, we are looking for a single location without dog contact. Ideal Home ✔ quiet home ✔ ideally village life or rural area ✔ no bustling city center ✔ people who do not need huge walks ✔ someone looking for a loyal companion, not a sport dog In short: perfect for someone who values closeness, peace, and attachment. Training • knows basic commands • on leash: ignores commands • off leash: reliably returns when called ❤️ Our Wish We are not looking for a quick home, but the right one. A loving environment that respects Columbia's limits and provides her with the security she needs. If you are looking for a loyal soul by your side and can offer her a calm, dog-friendly life, we would be delighted to receive a serious inquiry. Contact:

Kontakt:

About Columbia

What life with Columbia looks like

Columbia is a large adult dog waiting at Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Columbia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Columbia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Columbia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Columbia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Columbia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Columbia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Columbia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
