Cooper

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Cooper is an exceptionally charming and touching dog born in 2018, who immediately wins human hearts with his gentle nature. He is a medium-sized dog, weighing 11.5 kg, making him an ideal companion for shared living. Cooper is very friendly and open to human contact, though in his relationships, he maintains a great sense of culture – he is not pushy but gladly accepts invitations for petting and closeness. What’s important, he is a relatively non-barking dog, making him a perfect candidate for a calm owner. Though he feels confident on a walk, bravely exploring the terrain and not showing fear, it’s clear that in his previous life, he didn’t get to experience some aspects of living alongside humans. Cooper cannot walk on a leash and feels very insecure in it, reacting with a momentary freeze in place, just as he reacts to attempts to pick him up, to which he was clearly not accustomed. Despite the stress these new situations cause him, he maintains absolute gentleness; he never displays aggression, and he bears all hygiene procedures with commendable patience. His relationship with other dogs is very positive – after a brief introduction and sniffing, he usually goes his own way, not seeking further interaction. Though we don’t know his reaction to cats, his balanced character allows us to hope for a positive introduction to other owners. Cooper has a moderate level of energy and is not picky about food, which could be helpful in further training. Due to his past experiences, he would best fit in a home with a yard where he feels most at ease, but with a little patience and work on leash training, he certainly has the chance to become an excellent companion in other conditions as well. We are looking for a compassionate caregiver who will help him acclimate to the world in small steps and be rewarded with his exceptionally warm and trusting gaze. Cooper is microchipped, neutered, and vaccinated.

About Cooper

What life with Cooper looks like

Cooper is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cooper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cooper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cooper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cooper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cooper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cooper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cooper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
