Cooper

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

male dog geb. 06.04.2018 Bin auf foster home! Cooper is a special kind of dog. He loves people, but has also experienced a lot of mess with them and learned that he can't rely on his people in important moments. So he has learned that he needs to manage exciting and/or scary situations on his own. Unfortunately, he resorted to using his 42 arguments as a last resort, burdening his last family. Cooper is incredibly smart and his body language is very clear and easily readable for experienced dog owners. But yes, Cooper can only be entrusted to experienced hands based on his background. In his new home, there should be no other pets or children. He is compatible with other female dogs and male dogs in a quiet environment and can also pass by them calmly on a leash. He masters all useful and useless commands and performs them with joy when he realizes that they are meant seriously. He can be left alone without destructive behavior or loud outbursts and is house-trained. If he respects a person, he sticks with them through thick and thin and proves himself as a loyal and inquisitive companion, perfectly suited for search and rescue work. Cooper needs structure, order, and loving consequences in his life. This gives him stability and security. In public, Cooper must wear a muzzle. He is familiar with the muzzle and wears it without problems, just like any other dog wears a collar or harness. A well-fitting muzzle does not restrict him. He can drink, sleep, eat, and yawn with it. Cooper is a bit scruffy, but otherwise in great health and weighs 15 kg. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Cooper

What life with Cooper looks like

Cooper is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Wolfsranch — Tierheim Wächtler in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cooper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cooper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Wolfsranch — Tierheim Wächtler handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cooper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cooper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Wolfsranch — Tierheim Wächtler will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cooper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cooper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Wolfsranch — Tierheim Wächtler early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cooper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
