Cornetto

Dachshund · Male · Young · 1 year

Cornetto is waiting for a fresh start at our partner animal shelter, Allatbarat, in Hungary. Together with the female dog Minera, he was found in a backyard. Unfortunately, we don't know how the two ended up there—perhaps they were simply abandoned. At least one attentive man provided them with water until our partner shelter was finally notified and could bring them to safety. Currently, Cornetto still appears very uncertain and skeptical around people. When someone enters his kennel, he doesn't know what to expect and prefers to keep his distance at first. Nevertheless, Cornetto is a sweet and friendly dachshund who simply needs time to settle in. We hope that in the coming weeks he will gradually gain more confidence and realize that nothing bad will ever happen to him here. In his new environment and home, building trust will be his top priority. Later on, he’ll also need to learn the basics of dog etiquette as well as everyday routines in a home setting. Cornetto gets along well with other dogs. For Cornetto, we’re looking for people who understand his uncertainty, who will accompany and guide him with love but also with consistency, and who can offer him a truly authentic dachshund life. Behind his cautious demeanor lies undoubtedly a dachshund who someday wants to go through life with his nose held high and plenty of dachshund charm. About Cornetto

What life with Cornetto looks like

Cornetto is a small young adult dachshund dog waiting at Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. in Marsberg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cornetto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cornetto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cornetto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cornetto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cornetto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cornetto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cornetto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
