Crusty (Vermittelt)

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Name: Crusty Born: ca. 2017 Gender: male dog, neutered Breed: mixed breed Size: ca. 40 cm and ca. 12 Kilo Foster home: Crusty has arrived well at the animal welfare association Wörrstadt. Now, everything necessary will be medically checked, and then he is on the lookout for a suitable home, which we wish so much for the dear fellow. Often, the ages mentioned here are estimated values, as we do not always know the exact age. Other information, such as size, is subjective. He was finally able to travel before he would have had to spend his 6th winter in Romania. He lives in a small group of dogs and shows himself to be very compatible there. He could also become a second dog. But of course, he also deserves a place as a single prince. If interested, you can contact the animal welfare association Wörrstadt directly or fill out a referral form. We will then gladly make contact. First message from Wörrstadt: Our shy, little Romanian Crusty is making progress. When we came, he was already wagging his tail at the fence. He is already getting closer to some people and gently licks someone's hand. Today, Isa was able to treat him for the first time. He enjoyed a thorough massage and received acupressure, as acupuncture would have been too much for him. He is fortunately very still and does not try to run away, which makes everything much easier. Next Friday, Crusty's teeth will be fixed, and in anesthesia, everything will be done that otherwise would cause him unnecessary stress, like blood draw, ear cleaning, and nail trimming. New from Crusty, now Champ: Although I am dog-tired, I want to tell you about the first walk with O-Beinchen Crusty. The little fellow has made good progress, and it was time to try something new. His previous 5 years have been spent in a 6 square meter pen with 5 other dogs. No retreat, no escape, and he has never left the pen. So, the first outing into the unknown world outside was a big challenge, especially since Crusty is not used to walking on a leash. I carried him over the street and then set him down in the grass. Oh, he was surprised and looked at everything with big eyes. After a while, he started to sniff, walk around, sit down, look, eat grass, and sniff… The dear little guy did a pretty good job for his first time. I am sure he enjoyed it and was even cool enough to poop outside. We'll see how it goes next time. Our Champi is so happy every time Isa, the physio, comes for treatment. Now, he jumps up and makes funny noises in joy. To stabilize and support his deformed legs, we have now adjusted knee bandages for Champ. He still needs to get used to them and stumbles around a bit, but that will change. Crusty is a handsome young male dog who lives in a large pack with many other male and female dogs. He is, therefore, very compatible. During his puppyhood, he had fewer people around him and is therefore still a bit reserved. As he is curious, with a bit of dog experience, you can win his trust in a few days, and then he will also be willing to be touched. Currently, he avoids it but does it involuntarily. He also takes treats out of your hand. If you are interested in this great dog, please fill out the referral form or call us at the phone number provided. Here are a few pictures. About Crusty (Vermittelt)

What life with Crusty (Vermittelt) looks like

Crusty (Vermittelt) is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. in Zornheim.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Crusty (Vermittelt), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Crusty (Vermittelt)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Crusty (Vermittelt) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Crusty (Vermittelt) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Crusty (Vermittelt) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Crusty (Vermittelt) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Crusty (Vermittelt) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
