Adopt Cuba

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

All Dogs Cuba Drucken Published: January 30, 2026 Birthdate: estimated January 2021 Gender: male Breed: Mix Size (shoulder height): approx. 58 cm Weight: 21.8 kg Cuba was rehomed with us in 2021 as a puppy and sadly had to come back to us on May 13, 2023, for an unfortunate reason—he bit his female. He had not shown such behavior with us. The handsome fellow lived with various female dogs and got along well with them. With male dogs, it's about their liking; we see him more as a lone wolf in his home. Cuba loves going for walks and has his nose very close to the ground. We can imagine that he would really thrive in nose work. He already knows basic commands from his previous owners and is otherwise a witty and laid-back guy. He can be cautious with strangers at first, and he can also bark. Once he knows the people, he is friendly and happy to interact. Cuba attends our internal dog training classes. He enjoys learning and wants to please. He really shines when he can work together with his person. Since he is very food-motivated, he is always fully engaged and gives his best. During group walks, he likes to be at the front. Cubas previous owners describe a resource problem with him, which we have not yet observed. He is only very greedy when it comes to food. He knows a muzzle but does not find it particularly enjoyable. This requires a lot of patience and time to practice. For Cuba, we wish for an active home that can challenge him physically and mentally, and his future people must be prepared for the fact that Cuba may display different behaviors in his home compared to the animal shelter. At our animal shelter, he behaves unobtrusively and is very happy to receive mental stimulation and human interaction. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Cuba

What life with Cuba looks like

Cuba is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Alsfeld in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cuba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cuba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Alsfeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cuba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cuba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Alsfeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cuba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cuba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Alsfeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cuba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
