Adopt Cupcake

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Cupcake Our heartbreaker is a 3-year-old, neutered male dog of the XL-Bully type, but he is being rehomed as a Staffordshire mix. This lovable dog longs for a new home where he can receive the love and attention he deserves. Despite the tough times he has endured, he has retained his zest for life. Cupcake has lost 90% of his vision due to improper treatment. One eye had to be removed due to severe injuries. A heart of gold, this big guy is essentially a happy-go-lucky nature, but he needs to feel safe and secure to truly thrive. His impairment requires understanding and patient people who recognize and accept his needs. With the right guidance and support, Cupcake can learn to trust and feel comfortable in his new home. Current placement and wishes Cupcake lives outside of the Düsseldorf animal shelter in a specially tailored foster home provided by the association Institut Forschung Listenhunde e.V. in Saxony-Anhalt at Kowalski’s Bullyschnuten. There, life is being explained to him anew, and he has regained his uncomplicated zest for life. It is important that future adopters continue this path and take the time to get to know our treasure intensively over a longer period. Requirements for future owners We are looking for experienced dog owners who understand the needs of a handicapped dog. Cupcake needs a reliable support and a friend who stands by him in everyday life. Due to his handicap, he desires a single spot where he gets full attention. Households with small children are not suitable. Older, sensible children around 12 years and older are okay. He has integrated well and shows himself to be problem-free in various situations at the fence. A walk in the pack is always an adventure among friends for him. Calm and fair handling is of great importance to him. Cupcake is a wonderful dog who responds well to learned commands. We assist him with commands like “Stop” and “Careful.”

About Cupcake

What life with Cupcake looks like

Cupcake is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cupcake, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cupcake?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Düsseldorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cupcake on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cupcake if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Düsseldorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cupcake already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cupcake isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Düsseldorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cupcake and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
