Daisy

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

At the animal shelter since: May 2021 Estimated age: born around July 2015 Estimated shoulder height: about 40 – 49 cm Get to know dog Daisy directly in the video! Gentle dog Daisy is looking for security! The gentle female dog Daisy belongs to the dogs that have not yet experienced much beauty in life. She was rescued from the streets of Romania and has been waiting in the Romanian shelter for several years now for her chance. More information about how the dogs come to the animal shelter and answers to general questions can be found in our animal protection FAQ. Daisy initially meets strangers cautiously and insecurely. At the same time, it is clear that she actually longs for closeness and a sense of belonging. Curious, she observes her surroundings and attentively follows what happens around her – during this she feels most secure with some distance. In a familiar environment and with people she knows, she now shows small but very valuable progress: She joyfully greets her trusted people at the fence, wags her tail carefully and gladly takes treats from the hand. She sometimes even allows short touches, especially if you give her the time to decide the contact herself. New situations or quick movements still unsettle her. Daisy gets along very well with other dogs. She has developed a close bond with her long-time friend Champ – the two provide each other with security and orientation. In general, Daisy strongly relies on confident fellow animals, which is why an existing, calm dog in her new home would be a great support for her. Daisy needs people with dog experience, patience and a good feeling for anxious dogs. People who do not expect rapid progress, but are ready to show her the world in her own pace. For this sensitive female dog, we are therefore looking for a quiet home without small children, ideally located in a rural area. Anyone who is ready to see and appreciate the small steps will discover a very special soul in Daisy. Because behind all her caution is a female dog who would actually like to belong – she just lacks the courage to do so. It is important to us that Daisy's new people understand her age and her health development. What it means to adopt an old female dog, you can read here. We wish for this little nose people who are aware that rescue dogs bring a certain history with them. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany. That is why we are looking for people who have patience, perseverance and goodwill. But one thing is certain: Whoever adopts instead of buys not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively decides against animal suffering – and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adoption, please first read through the adoption process. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas and neutered (exceptions are puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are additionally tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to send a message to our adoption team.

About Daisy

What life with Daisy looks like

Daisy is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Daisy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Daisy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Daisy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Daisy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Daisy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Daisy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Daisy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
