Dakota

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

There she stood, calmly observing the people searching for a little puppy. She wasn't chosen, and that had been the case for 7 years. But this time, it was different. Something in her gaze touched us. After 7 years at the animal shelter, it was enough, and we decided she could come to live with us. A beautiful dog with a heart of gold. Dakota is her name, and she is friendly with everyone and everything. At first, it was a adjustment for her. People who want to cuddle and give her attention. That's not something she was used to. Not that she had it bad, but this was new. Always living outdoors, in all weathers… that is all over now. With us, she has a cozy indoor spot, and she can go outside whenever she wants. Her life has changed, and it's a complete 360. She loves it here, and sometimes it can still be a bit overwhelming for her. Dear Dakota has earned it. She longs for her own owner, who will take her for lovely walks because she loves doing that. Would you open your home and heart to this sweet senior lady? Then we would be happy to get in touch with you. Call: 06-50800245 or fill out the form:

About Dakota

What life with Dakota looks like

Dakota is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Stichting Huis voor Dieren in Netherlands.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dakota, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dakota?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Huis voor Dieren handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dakota on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dakota if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Huis voor Dieren will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dakota already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dakota isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Huis voor Dieren early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dakota and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
