Dakota

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Anyone who sees the beautiful Dakota playing and cuddling with the animal protectors from Arca in Seville is impressed by Dakota's calmness and her tenderness, but for this German Shepherd lady, the loving interaction with humans and animals is anything but obvious. In July 2021, our friends in Andalusia found the four-year-old Dakota (as of 08/2021) on a site outside the city. A chain only a few meters long, attached to a tractor tire - this was Dakota's life in recent years. A bucket of water, food scattered on the floor - the same floor where the female dog also had to relieve herself, no place to protect herself from rain or sun, in Dakota's life there was no variety, no joy, no friends, only the heavy chain around her neck. The animal welfare workers who found Dakota in this dog hell set all their efforts in motion to find the owner of the poor soul - and when they succeeded, they managed to convince the man to give up the grateful female dog and offer her a better future. Now Dakota lives in the animal shelter of our partners and discovers an entirely new world. Although this world of bars and concrete floors may be small, for Dakota it is huge, and she enjoys every butterfly, every bird, every four-legged creature she meets - and she loves her rescuers. Our girl has no experience with the environment, her future family has the big task of explaining everything to this intelligent and curious female dog that she still doesn't understand. Dakota absorbs everything, is enthusiastic about toys, small tricks, dog friends, visitors, the ever-present cats in Arca, resting places, regular meals... How great will it be when she is allowed to discover car rides, walks, TV evenings, and a family of her own?! Are you the person who wants and can enable this wonderful female dog to start a happy and joyful dog life? Then we would be delighted to hear from you soon, so that Dakota can soon climb into one of our transporters - and rush into your arms and your heart when she gets off.

About Dakota

What life with Dakota looks like

Dakota is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dakota, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dakota?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dakota on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dakota if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dakota already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dakota isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dakota and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
