Adopt Dana

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 8 months

Life can be very beautiful - and sometimes also extremely unfair. Unfortunately, our new arrival Dana is currently experiencing the latter. A few days ago, Dana's owner stood in front of ArcoNatura and reluctantly handed over her 8-month-old (as of 03/2021) female dog to the animal welfare workers from Linares. She had asked our friends for help because she had to separate from her husband after several incidents of domestic violence. The child has already developed serious behavioral problems due to the constant experiences of violence, and both the father and the disturbed child tend to take out their frustration on the weakest member of the problematic family - on Dana. The mother has now decided to save her child from this environment and start over elsewhere, but there was no room for a young dog in the hasty plans - so the beautiful and funny princess urgently needs a new circle of influence, this time for life. Dana is a cheerful girl who has now integrated well into the group of young dogs at the animal shelter. Although she was initially very reserved because she had developed some escape reflexes due to her experiences, it can now only be stated that she loves people above all and has quickly forgiven what was done to her. She is happy about every contact with volunteers, searches pockets for cookies, enjoys cuddles and is very attentive and eager to learn. Dana has a charming beard, which could indicate a good dose of Schnauzer blood - and she has many traits that suggest a fun-loving and intelligent Retriever; an extremely interesting and really funny mix that people who live joyfully, colorfully, and actively through life are looking for. Dana wants to learn a lot, find many new friends (regardless of the number of her legs), explore the world and become someone's best friend. Please don't make our charming snuggle bug wait too long for her new home, there are dogs that need a family like air to breathe - and Dana certainly belongs to that group!

About Dana

What life with Dana looks like

Dana is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
