Dandelion

Male

Dandelion - a cheerful fellow with lots of joie de vivre. Dandelion is a lovable, cheerful and joie de vivre dog who enjoys life to the fullest. 🐾❤️ He particularly enjoys long walks - he loves to be on the move and discover the world together with his person. Once Dandelion has taken his person into his heart, he shows his cuddly side. He enjoys closeness and caresses very much with his person. He is uncomplicated with strangers: he lets himself be touched, otherwise he is rather uninterested in them and goes calmly out of their way. Dandelion sometimes still has his own head on the leash. 😉 He likes to run where it is exciting for him and likes to "do his own thing" while doing so. The first steps towards leash training have already been made - and of course he continues to practice diligently. This needs people who remain patient and show him lovingly, but consistently, that joint walks are even more beautiful when you also orientate yourself a bit towards each other. What makes Dandelion stand out: He is environmentally friendly and is hardly disturbed by the many impressions of everyday life. Bicycles, people, traffic noise and other environmental stimuli are just part of it for him. 🚲🌳 Dandelion also meets other dogs mostly friendly. However, there are certainly one or two fellow dogs that he absolutely does not like - and he makes it very clear.😄 Here his future people should be able to read him well and accept that Dandelion does not have to be friends with every dog. We are looking for people who enjoy being on the move with him, working on his leash training and giving him the time he needs. People who appreciate his cheerful nature, do not want to change his little quirks and instead look forward to walking through life with him. Because behind all his little quirks is a wonderful dog who is waiting to finally find his own home and his very own people. 🌼❤️

About Dandelion

What life with Dandelion looks like

Dandelion is a adult dog waiting at Tierheim Gelsenkirchen in Gelsenkirchen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dandelion, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dandelion?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Gelsenkirchen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dandelion on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dandelion if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Gelsenkirchen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dandelion already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dandelion isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Gelsenkirchen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dandelion and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
