Dante

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

💙 Dante 💙 JADR 📍 Location: Croatia, near Zagreb - can be visited at any time 📅 Born: ca. October 2, 2019 (estimated) 📏 Size: ca. 51 cm ⚖️ Weight: ca. 18 kg 🩺 Health: microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, EU pet passport available 💗 His Story: Dante is another street dog - a dog whose early life we know nothing about. He appeared in a town, wandered around, hid, and searched for food and a little bit of safety. Eventually, he ended up at the local animal shelter. Not microchipped, without a background, without a history. This was in 2023. He didn't get a name - only a number: 1890. For two long years, he spent time at the animal shelter. Quiet, unobtrusive, modest, black. While other dogs - younger, more colorful, more noticeable - were adopted, he was overlooked. For many, he was invisible. A black dog without a name. A dog without a chance. Until a volunteer said: "I want him. I will do everything to find a home for this dog." So, Dante came to a foster home - emaciated, unsettled, but with a small hope in his heart. And there, the most important thing happened: he got a name. He became someone. No longer just a number. 💗 His Nature: Dante gets along well with other dogs and loves the contact with people. He can walk well on a leash and enjoys long walks - something that was denied to him for years, as he spent most of his life in a cramped kennel. He is a quiet, gentle dog with a deep, honest way of loving. No loud demands, no pushing - just genuine, quiet affection. 🤍🐾 🏡 His Dream Home: Dante is looking for patient, loving people who will gently guide him into his new life. A family that will show him how beautiful life can be, step by step, and teach him everything a family dog should know. What Dante gives back is invaluable: boundless, quiet, and honest love. 🏡❤️ ✨ Dante is ready for a new beginning. A dog with a name. A dog with dignity. A dog who will never again be just a number.

About Dante

What life with Dante looks like

Dante is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hund sucht Hütte in Austria.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dante, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dante?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hund sucht Hütte handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dante on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dante if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hund sucht Hütte will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dante already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dante isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hund sucht Hütte early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dante and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
