Dante2

Mixed Breed · Male

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Dante2 was brought to the vet by his own family to be put to sleep. The owners explained that they could no longer take good care of him. The Spanish vet refused to euthanize the healthy male and informed the animal protection agency. Our partner organization took Dante2 into safe custody. The mixed breed with the characteristic fur mask immediately showed himself to be a lively, sporty fellow. However, in the shelter, he retreats or barks. It is very sad to see how much life in the animal shelter stresses Dante. He does not understand why his freedom was exchanged for grim shelter walls. Although his family wanted Dante2 euthanized, he lived in a country house, had freedom to move around, could sniff and run a lot. Now, he lives confined, behind bars in a concrete cage. When the caretakers let Dante2 out in the shelter run, he blossoms. The four-legged friend has a need for movement and then really lets loose. He dashes, snuggles, sniffs, and plays. Confining him in the run, he barks more, but outside he shows himself to be very happy and also as an absolutely people-oriented snuggler. The 4-year-old daughter of a caretaker already knew Dante2, and he reacted positively to the child. However, this was only a first impression, and in his future home, it should be clear that Dante2 likely needs time to get to know children better. With other dogs, Dante decides based on sympathy; currently, he is already being socialized with suitable, well-balanced dogs in the shelter. Making photos of Dante2 was initially difficult because he found it more exciting to sniff around; but then he calmed down and found human attention great again and wanted to snuggle right away. We do not know which environmental stimuli Dante2 has already been exposed to. However, our local animal welfare workers believe that no cats, small animals, or other dogs should live in his home. Dante2 would certainly be enthusiastic about varied adventures, and maybe an appropriate dog sport would be a great experience for him. Dante2 needs urgent mental stimulation and should not be confined any longer, as we fear that he will slowly give up here in the cramped run. Please note:

Unser Partnerverein nahm Dante2 in sicheren Gewahrsam. About Dante2

What life with Dante2 looks like

Dante2 is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dante2, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dante2?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dante2 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dante2 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dante2 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dante2 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dante2 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
