Darcey

Jack Russell Terrier · Female · Senior · 13 years

She is looking for a predictable, peaceful home with people around most of the time for her to keep company and to get attention from! Darcey adores following her nose and pottering around on walks so she would like to live with someone who’s happy to give her the time to enjoy this. Darcey could live with older children who understand she needs some peace, as although she is young at heart she does need quiet time and to not be over-handled. She may be able to live with an older placid dog, but would find a young boisterous dog too much. Add Darcey to your favourites if you’d love to give a lovely dog a wonderful retirement home and get the best company in return! Darcey is a super sweet little lady! She’s a 13 yr old Jack Russell Cross with a spring in her step! She is excited to meet new people and loves to go over to say hello! Once she’s gotten to know you her playful, affectionate personality shines through and she’s such a delight to be around! Darcey is a lovely, friendly girl but she does find visiting the vets very stressful and needs to wear a muzzle. This is something our team are very happy to support her adopters with as further muzzle training and happy vet visits will be necessary parts of Darcey’s journey. Please don’t let this put you off as she is wonderful company, really enjoyable to walk on a lead and has great house manners!

About Darcey

What life with Darcey looks like

Darcey is a senior jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Leeds in Leeds.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Darcey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Darcey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Leeds handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Darcey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Darcey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Leeds will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Darcey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Darcey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Leeds early rather than rehoming privately; they know Darcey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
