Daryl

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Size: 58cmAge: *09/2024. Compatible with Males: YesFemales: YesCats: Not yet tested Since us since: 30.03.2026Residence: animal shelter ANAA June 2026 – Daryl is a young Malinois-Mix who doesn’t belong to the dogs that rush to anyone immediately. He prefers to observe from a safe distance before slowly approaching and building trust. Give him this time and do not pressure him. Once his trust is won, his charming character becomes evident. He accepts treats kindly, allows gentle stroking, and enjoys the attention of his familiar humans. Even though touches sometimes still unsettle him, he makes small progress every day and shows that a loyal and affectionate companion lies within him. Daryl generally gets along well with other dogs. He has a particularly close bond with his brother Merle (whom you can also find on our homepage). In a run, the more serious young male dog suddenly becomes an active one who loves to run, sniff, dig, and explore his surroundings. He also enjoys quiet moments where he can relax in the shade. For Daryl, we are looking for a dog-experienced home with people who have patience, empathy, and understanding for a dog who needs time to settle in. People who are familiar with this breed and where he learns that the world has beautiful sides. He is not a dog for beginners. He does not want to be pressured but to arrive at his own pace. With people who gently and consistently guide him, give him security, and are willing to work with him and face new situations as a team. He also wants to be engaged and supported in head and nose work, such as with food pouch searches. He eagerly awaits his perfect home to find him - perhaps with you.

About Daryl

What life with Daryl looks like

Daryl is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tiere in Spanien e.V. in Hamburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Daryl, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Daryl?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tiere in Spanien e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Daryl on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Daryl if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tiere in Spanien e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Daryl already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Daryl isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tiere in Spanien e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Daryl and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
