Dave -URGENT

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Dave is a 6 yr old black and tan Jack Russell cross and is need of help asap. Here is the current information. Dave requires a home with no other pets or persons other than the owner. He responds very well to affection and attention. He will spend hours cuddling his owner and maintaining eye contact. He will follow the owner everywhere. He is lively and agile. Dave adapts quickly to a new primary carer, loves his food and walks and is generally friendly and intelligent. He is not a fussy eater and travels well in the car. He will happily go into his crate where he feels safe. In there, he is mostly quiet day or night. He is anxious though and will think he is being abandoned if left alone. He will become destructive if left alone. His toilet habits are haphazard, he will use the outdoors but doesn't ask to go out. He will urinate indoors to mark his territory, partly due to anxiety and to make his home appear familiar and safe. He was rejected and placed in an outdoor kennel for 5 months with complete withdrawal of attention prior to being rescued.( A new puppy was introduced to the family and his jealousy caused him to nip the puppy, hence the exile.) If another animal is present, he becomes extremely possessive of his owner and will growl at the interloper. If a toy or bone is involved, he may attack the other animal to protect what he considers is his. He pulls when being walked on the lead, if off lead he will return. Dave seems to be in good health. He has a small hernia in his abdomen and has not been castrated. He is not up to date with his vaccinations. To offer Dave a home he really needs, please contact his current owner

About Dave -URGENT

What life with Dave -URGENT looks like

Dave -URGENT is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Mutts in Distress in Little Hallingbury.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dave -URGENT, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dave -URGENT?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Mutts in Distress handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dave -URGENT on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dave -URGENT if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Mutts in Distress will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dave -URGENT already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dave -URGENT isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Mutts in Distress early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dave -URGENT and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
