David

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

David, a one-eyed male born in 2022, about 58 cm tall, is still shy but is beginning to visibly blossom. The Mioritic mix David is going through a wonderful development. From the completely frightened, "untouchable" dog at the Public Shelter Motru, he has become a young male who is slowly gaining trust and allowing closeness. By now he lets the shelter operator approach him and even takes food from his carer's hand – a huge step for him. David has a small handicap: he has only one eye. The remaining tissue in the eye area was removed and the site was cleanly closed; his teeth were also treated. Once his facial hair has grown back, his missing eye will hardly be noticeable – even the veterinarian did not notice it at first. Despite his history, David shows how much potential he has. He is now looking for a calm and experienced foster home, or even better, a home that can give him time, patience and loving structure. With people who respect his sensitivity, David will continue to blossom and, step by step, regain trust in the world. We are looking for people who want to work with David but are willing to give him the time this requires. David is neutered and will be vaccinated, microchipped and, after a positive preliminary check, placed with a protection contract. General note about our animals: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in presenting each individual dog as accurately as possible. However, we would like to point out that a dog in a new environment – with new people, new routines and new impressions – may behave differently. This is completely normal and part of any process of change. Many dogs open up even faster at home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of every behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide orientation and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About David

What life with David looks like

David is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting David, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about David?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw David on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt David if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is David already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if David isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know David and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
