Derby

Cocker Spaniel · Female · Adult · 4 years

29-07-26 Please meet Derby. She has come to us from a breeder and is now looking for a loving forever home where she can begin to enjoy the life she has always deserved. Derby is a shy little girl with the most gentle nature. Although she can be a little unsure at first, she will quietly come over to say hello and is easy to handle. She has a lovely, sweet temperament and is already showing that, with a little patience and reassurance, she is keen to learn that people can be kind. Derby is looking for a calm and quiet home where she can settle in at her own pace. She will need patient adopters who understand that she has never experienced life in a home before and will need time to adjust to all the new sights, sounds and routines that come with family life. A kind and confident resident dog will be essential for Derby, as she will take comfort from having a canine friend to help guide her and build her confidence. She could also live with sensible, dog-savvy older teenagers aged 16 years and over who will give her the space and understanding she needs while she settles. Derby has never lived in a home before, so she will need help with house training and learning all about home life. She will also need to learn to walk on a lead and harness and will need to practice around the home and garden before venturing further. Derby is a truly lovely little girl and with love and TLC, we think she will truly blossom. She has had a dental and had 22 teeth removed, so will need a soft food diet moving forwards. She has an undershot jaw, but this doesn't bother her. Our vets have noted that she has a few mammary lumps, which will be removed. Derby has a travel document. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Derby

What life with Derby looks like

Derby is a adult cocker spaniel dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Derby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Derby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Derby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Derby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Derby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Derby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Derby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
