Dex

Male · Adult · 6 years

Because the owner of Dex didn't have enough time for him, Dex was brought to us. Dex is a neutered male German Shepherd, just over six years old. He's used to living outdoors in a kennel, so he'll need time to adjust to indoor living. At first, Dex is somewhat distrustful. But once you've earned his trust, he becomes an incredibly sweet and loyal dog who loves nothing more than going on adventures together with his human companion. A new owner will therefore need to give him plenty of time—and above all, lots of patience. Dex has now been staying at our animal shelter for quite some time. His regular caregivers can see the real (sweet) Dex hiding behind his tough exterior. We truly hope he finds a loving home with a new owner who can provide him with the care and attention he deserves. Otherwise, Dex is very enthusiastic and cheerful. He loves going for walks. However, Dex is quite strong, and he still needs to learn how to walk nicely on a leash. He also enjoys swimming—but only when there are no waves. In his kennel, Dex is quite different; he becomes very alert and watchful. He’s also extremely possessive about his toys and isn’t willing to give them up easily. Fortunately, he does give clear signals when he’s feeling this way. He does show some food interest too (especially in his kennel).

NL·Show original

About Dex

What life with Dex looks like

Dex is a adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel De Bevelanden in AE Goes.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dex, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dex?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel De Bevelanden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dex on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dex if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel De Bevelanden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dex already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dex isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel De Bevelanden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dex and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
