Dex

Male · Young · 2 years

Dex is a young, energetic herder mix with an enthusiastic character. He is athletic, social with people and enjoys life to the fullest. He needs a lot of exercise and mental stimulation and is therefore looking for an active owner who enjoys training together and investing time in him. Dex needs clear, positive and consistent guidance. He still needs to learn to deal with stimuli, regulate his energy and find peace. He loves playing with a ball, but he can get completely absorbed in it and has no brakes. His owner must therefore learn to read his body language and help him relax in time. Dex does not get along well with other dogs. He likes to run towards them during walks and can pull quite hard. An experienced owner who is confident and can handle him physically is therefore necessary. Experience with energetic dogs, preferably herders, is a plus. For Dex we are looking for a quiet 1- or 2-person household without children and other pets. Dex can jump very high and even over fences. A well-fenced garden or yard where he cannot escape is therefore an important condition. The new owner must not only be looking for a companion, but also want to work with Dex, for example by taking a course. With the right guidance he can grow into a nice, stable and obedient dog. Dex needs someone who can channel his energy, provide clarity and grow with him.

NL·Show original

Ga terug

About Dex

What life with Dex looks like

Dex is a young adult dog waiting at Dierentehuis Arnhem in Netherlands.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dex, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dex?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Arnhem handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dex on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dex if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Arnhem will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dex already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dex isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Arnhem early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dex and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
