Adopt Dex

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Dex Dex, one of our *bestagers*, who is always and always overlooked. Well, at first he was a bit grumpy. Now, in August 2025, it will be two years that the pup has been at the animal shelter. He has seen many dogs come and go. He has never been able to pack his suitcase yet. It took him some time to get used to his new environment. We were able to visit the boy again at the beginning of April. He has a big need for cuddles, is happy to be active and also enjoys a game. He is open, friendly, curious and a little cautious. Very gently and grateful, he took the treats offered to him, let us put a flea collar on him - even though we simply entered his run without asking - and was very patient. Meanwhile, he looked curiously to see if something tasty might be hidden in a jacket pocket. Dex lives with the shy Ara, he does her a lot of good and gives her security. Both like each other very much. With strange male dogs, he decides whether it's worth playing or if he just ignores them. Dex is a surrender dog. His owner could not or did not want him anymore at that time. It would be great if dog-experienced people could find him, even just as a foster home. About Dex

What life with Dex looks like

Dex is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Refugio Casas Ibanez e.V. in Wiesbaden.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dex, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dex?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Refugio Casas Ibanez e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dex on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dex if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Refugio Casas Ibanez e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dex already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dex isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Refugio Casas Ibanez e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dex and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
