Diego

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 18 years

At our animal shelter, we strive every day to offer a second chance to abandoned or struggling cats, promoting strong sterilization and the culture of responsibility. Preventing is the first step in combating feralism and reducing the suffering of so many animals that, without fault, find themselves alone and vulnerable. Among our guests is Diego, a FIV-positive kitten who arrived from Rome. His story is similar to that of many other cats who have experienced the uncertainty of the streets, but Diego hasn't lost his desire to interact and trust humans. He is a very charming cat, capable of stealing a smile from anyone who meets him. His appearance is truly irresistible: with his soft, round cheeks, he almost looks like a little hamster! This cute and sweet little face makes him unique and immediately recognizable. But it's not just his appearance that wins hearts: Diego is affectionate, curious, and loves company, even though he needs to feel safe before opening up completely. Being FIV positive doesn't mean he can't have a long and peaceful life. With the right attention, regular check-ups, and a quiet environment, Diego can live just like any other cat. For this reason, we are looking for a conscious adoption by informed people who are willing to respect his pace and needs. We invite anyone who wants to meet him to come to the animal shelter: meeting him in person is the best way to be conquered by his gentle gaze and sunny disposition. With a little patience and lots of love, Diego will know how to reciprocate with trust and sincere affection. Come meet Diego: he might just be the special companion you've been waiting for. About Diego

What life with Diego looks like

Diego is a small senior mixed breed cat waiting at Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali in Italy.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Diego, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Diego?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Diego on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Diego if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Diego already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Diego isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali early rather than rehoming privately; they know Diego and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
