Dietrich

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Dietrich, male, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, born on February 28, 2023, mixed breed. The charming Dietrich is a true one-of-a-kind: playful, cuddly, clever—and sometimes a little stubborn with clear ideas ????? With his familiar people, Dietrich is a real treasure : He loves to snuggle, adores playing, and with his funny demeanor, he makes everyone smile. He already knows “sit” and “stay,” and occasionally even “paw”—in his very own special way ???? But: Dietrich is not a dog for beginners! He initially approaches strangers with skepticism and can become pushy under uncertain or inconsistent leadership—in a serious situation, he might even bite. Moreover, in stressful or overwhelming situations, Dietrich may exhibit displacement behaviors, during which his excitement could be directed toward all those involved—including his own owner or accompanying persons. For this reason, Dietrich always wears a muzzle when going for walks—a muzzle he’s familiar with and accepts without any problems. This muzzle ensures the safety of everyone involved. Dietrich generally gets along well with other dogs, though resource-related issues can arise when it comes to food, toys, or treats—so attention and good management are essential here. Dietrich has great learning potential, but there’s still much for him to learn—from everyday life in a household to safe behavior in new situations. Consistent leadership with clear boundaries is crucial, as Dietrich likes to test what he can get away with. However, with loving yet firm guidance, he’ll develop positively. Dietrich has hip dysplasia (HD) and is currently being treated with pain medication. Cats and small animals are a strict no-go for him, as are children—likely due to past negative experiences. He has a strong hunting instinct. So far, he’s only known life in a kennel, but he’s house-trained and, with patience, will surely learn to live indoors too. Dietrich originally comes from Romania; he was rescued thoughtlessly and ultimately ended up in the animal shelter due to being overwhelmed. Now, he’s finally looking for a home with experienced people who understand him, provide him with clear structures, and show him the world step by step—then Dietrich will become a loyal, cuddly, and playful companion with lots of heart. Dietrich is NOT at the animal shelter in Plattling but at TH Benk (Pfarrkirchen). For questions and to arrange a meet-and-greet appointment, please call: 08561 / 4961

About Dietrich

What life with Dietrich looks like

Dietrich is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Plattling in Plattling.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dietrich, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dietrich?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Plattling handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dietrich on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dietrich if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Plattling will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dietrich already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dietrich isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Plattling early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dietrich and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
