Adopt Dinky

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Dinky (registration number P-5456/23) born in September 2022. Came to the animal shelter on 21.01.2023 from the Bacieczkowskiego Forest along with siblings. He is the most timid dog in the litter. Dinky is gradually learning to live outside the animal shelter. He has made progress, but he still freezes during walks and prefers not to leave the shelter's kennel. His attitude changes when he goes for a walk with another dog. He has several friendly shelter companions, with whom he confidently marches ahead. When he leaves his fears behind, he gladly sniffs, marks the area and enjoys river baths. He is very friendly, gentle and loves being hugged towards people. He feels comfortable during grooming procedures such as brushing. He gets along well with other dogs, is gentle and communicates nicely, but prefers to avoid encounters outside and waits until the other dog just passes by. Car rides currently greatly stress him, he is not even willing to get into the car. Dinki is a very loyal, cheerful dog who engages in the relationship with a person, but requires a lot of patience, involvement and joint work in overcoming fears. He will certainly prove to be a wonderful friend and companion. *The above description was created based on observation of the dog's behavior in the animal shelter. It should be noted that after adoption, the dog's behavior may change.

Dinky (nr rej. P-5456/23) urodzony we wrześniu 2022 roku. Do schroniska trafił 21.01.2023r. z Lasu Bacieczkowskiego wraz z rodzeństwem.

About Dinky

What life with Dinky looks like

Dinky is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Bialystok in Białystok.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dinky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dinky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Bialystok handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dinky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dinky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Bialystok will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dinky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dinky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Bialystok early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dinky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
