Dito

Female · Adult · 6 years

A little guy seeking peace and security. Our dear little Dito is a purebred Bichon Havanais who came to us because he wasn't comfortable around the children in his previous family. He has a big heart and is very kind, but he can be a bit uncertain when meeting new people, which sometimes leads him to bark a little if he finds it stressful. Dito loves going for his walks, cuddling on the sofa, and would probably enjoy doing some exercises to boost his confidence! This wonderful guy seems to need security in order to blossom into an even happier and more playful dog—exactly the one we know is hiding inside—and we’re absolutely convinced that he’ll grow and dare to take up more space in a home where he can become a natural part of the family and receive the attention he so deeply deserves. Since Dito can be a bit unsure in new environments and around unfamiliar people, we’d prefer someone with prior experience handling such situations, someone who won’t push Dito beyond what he’s comfortable with. He also finds handling procedures stressful, so you’ll need to be prepared to spend some time training to create positive associations with handling rather than forcing him, as his past experiences with this have unfortunately been quite negative. On the other hand, he has no problem going to the vet for check-ups—rather, it’s grooming his coat and clipping his nails that tend to bother him. Dito can also pull a bit on the leash, but usually has no trouble encountering other dogs on walks; he mostly just stops and waits until the other dog has passed by. However, since Dito is fairly food-motivated, we’re confident that this behavior can be trained and improved.

About Dito

What life with Dito looks like

Dito is a small adult dog waiting at Hundstallet in Stockholm.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dito, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dito?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundstallet handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dito on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dito if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundstallet will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dito already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dito isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundstallet early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dito and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
