Adopt Django

Male · Adult · 5 years

Django is a character-strong dog who came to us because his previous owner did not comply with official regulations. In the past, there were biting incidents with other dogs, which is why he was classified as dangerous and has a muzzle and leash requirement. Since he has been with us, he has been working intensively with him. He has completed a very good behavioral assessment. He only gets along with other dogs when there is clear affection, and he is very selective about it. In direct handling, he often shows his macho side and wants to control everything. Therefore, he can only be rehomed as a single dog. He walks well on a leash, can go for walks in dog groups with clear leadership, and is capable of ignoring other dogs. However, he would like to bark at other dogs on the leash if given the opportunity. In new situations and with strangers, Django often shows insecurity and needs time to warm up. With his trusted people, he is a sweet, cuddly, playful, and affectionate fellow who seeks a lot of contact. He would do anything for treats and always looks forward to activities like hide-and-seek or retrieval exercises. Although he has little talent, he has a lot of motivation! We are looking for dog-experienced people, ideally with knowledge of the breed. He wishes for a quiet home without children or other pets. Additionally, he can be left alone for a few hours. Important: Django was classified as dangerous. Information on the topic of dangerous dogs can be found further down on this page under the section "Further Information in Film Form." About Django

What life with Django looks like

Django is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Tierheim Hannover in Hannover.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Classified as dangerous dog - requires muzzle and leash mandate. Previous bite incidents with other dogs. Must be kept as single dog.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Django, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Django?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hannover handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Django on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Django if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hannover will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Django already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Django isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hannover early rather than rehoming privately; they know Django and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
