Dobby

Unknown

Dobby spent several years isolated in the animal shelter and had minimal contact with people or other dogs during this time. As a result, he shows limited socialization. However, he demonstrates a continuous and stable development. Currently, he lives in a mixed pack and gets along well with both small and large dogs. In everyday life, Dobby shows cooperative and easy-to-manage behavior. He walks well on a leash, is food-motivated, wants to please, and reliably follows his primary caregiver. He readily accepts instructions and works attentively. Dobby is accustomed to wearing a muzzle, travels easily by car, behaves unobtrusively in everyday life (e.g., during restaurant visits), and can also be left alone without issues. His impulse control and frustration tolerance have significantly improved. He is reliably recallable, can be left calmly, even when his primary caregiver is absent, and waits patiently at doors or during getting in and out of the car until he is released. Overall, Dobby displays a stable and approachable behavior when clearly led. Due to his background, he may initially react uncertainly to strangers and would take the initiative to move forward if he lacks leadership. This behavior is, however, well assessable and can be effectively managed with the right guidance. Dobby therefore seeks a home with experienced people who can provide structure, security, and clear leadership and are willing to continue the work that has been done so far. Children should not live in the household. He already knows cats, and cohabitation with them is generally conceivable. Do you think you are the right person for Gina or would you like to get to know her better?

DE·Show original

About Dobby

What life with Dobby looks like

Dobby is a extra-large adult dog waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dobby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dobby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dobby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dobby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dobby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dobby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dobby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
