Adopt Dobby

Mixed Breed · Male

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Dobby was found on the farm at around two months old, along with three other brothers, all of whom have already been happily adopted. At around nine months old, the young dog developed a distal growth plate closure in the tibia, causing pressure on the knee and lateralization of the area. This is an inherited bone condition of the hind legs, consisting of bilateral distal tibial torsion - a misalignment of the tibia in childhood and adolescence with valgus position (= knee misalignment). Dobby was therefore operated on at the beginning of 2024 on both hind legs, two very complicated surgeries, first on one and three months later on the other, so that he spent more than half a year in a foster family during his recovery. Dobby is a fantastic dog and friend, and he is also a clean dog, as despite the surgeries, he went outside to relieve himself. Dobby lived in a private home for many months, yet he still shows signs of being a fearful creature. As he was rescued at only around two months old, the local animal welfare workers can with high certainty say that he was never mistreated, but Dobby often shows fear. The large male dog should ideally live in a home with a garden where he can freely come and go. His new family should be aware that he is a shy dog who is never aggressive towards people or other dogs, but who needs a lot of patience and a safe place. Walks with Dobby should be practiced very slowly, and he likes cuddles, but only if he knows and trusts someone. At the beginning, he should be left alone in the house and garden. We hope deeply that somewhere there is one person or one family who understands this special personality and wants to take care of it, because once you understand Dobby, you will fall in love with him. Although Dobby is very shy, he loves other dogs, including cats, and although he may initially shy away from cuddles, he does not react unfriendly but lets himself be stroked. Who would like to connect their soul with this big guy and give him confidence and trust? Update18.02.2026 new pictures. Dobby could be met in November. Please note:

Update18.02.2026 neue Bilder. Im November konnte Dobby kennengelernt werden. About Dobby

What life with Dobby looks like

Dobby is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dobby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dobby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dobby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dobby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dobby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dobby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dobby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
