Dodo

Male · Senior · 11 years

DODO, a large dog, was brought to the shelter from Csillag Street. His owner passed away and he was left alone. Unfortunately, he was not very friendly when he arrived, and he could only be caught with a catch pole. He had never heard of a leash in his life. He spent his life in a yard and never enjoyed the pleasure of a walk. He probably has been disappointed many times in his life, so he looks at strangers with a little distrust. He just looks at us with his big sad eyes and growls at us, but if we let him out into the shelter's yard, he can be petted. He would like to be petted by his caregiver, but unfortunately, we have not been able to put a collar on him because he bites. His rehabilitation will be a long process. We will do everything we can to turn his fate around. September 7, 2022: The result of his heartworm test was negative. UPDATE November 1, 2023: DODO is now walking nicely on a leash and really enjoys being petted.

Sajnos vannak kutyusok, akik nem éppen szerencsés csillagzat alatt születtek. DODO, a nagytestű kutyus, például a Csillag utcáról került be.

About Dodo

What life with Dodo looks like

Dodo is a large senior dog waiting at Csabai Állatvédők Egyesülete in Hungary.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dodo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dodo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Csabai Állatvédők Egyesülete handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dodo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dodo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Csabai Állatvédők Egyesülete will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dodo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dodo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Csabai Állatvédők Egyesülete early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dodo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
