Adopt Dolce

Chihuahua · Male · Senior · 11 years

Gender: male, neutered Date of Birth: October 2015 Size: under knee-high Gets along with dogs: no Children in the same household: no Home sought: outskirts of town or countryside The skeptical, 2015-born Chihuahua male dog Dolce after a get-to-know phase, is loved. Other dogs unfortunately do not belong to his friends. Dolce goes calmly on the leash and is mostly house-trained, although he occasionally has accidents. In his last home, he was house-trained and could also be left alone for some time. For the little gentleman, we are looking for a quiet home in the quiet outskirts of town or countryside, as both encounters with people and with dogs stress him. In stressful situations, Dolce is also ready to snap! A heart murmur was detected in Dolce and an ultrasound was done – currently, he does not require heart medication. Due to a blockage in his liver in the past and the accumulation of fluid in his gallbladder as a result, this was treated – currently, everything is back to normal and the medications have been discontinued, although regular check-ups with the vet are still necessary.

About Dolce

What life with Dolce looks like

Dolce is a small senior chihuahua dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dolce, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dolce?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dolce on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dolce if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dolce already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dolce isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dolce and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
