Adopt Dolores

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 3 months

Stressed Dolores came to the shelter as a puppy. From the beginning, she was harassed by other dogs. Most of the time, she hid in one of the huts to have her peace. Therefore, Milan decided to move her to a much smaller group directly by the canal. There she has more peace from the others. You can see the stress from the shelter on Dolores, as she already has a white muzzle at just under 6 years old. Therefore, we would greatly wish for a quiet place where she is not bullied. Dolores gets along very well with people. She loves to snuggle and actively seeks closeness. Outside, during free walks, she is happy and lively. She also has no problem with other dogs, but in the shelter itself, the large number of dogs is simply too much for her. Another dog would not be a problem for Dolores, but she is probably one of the dogs that can also be very happy as a single dog. As long as she has a person who gives her attention and love. Info: What does it mean that the dog is not yet ready for adoption? Our dogs are regularly vaccinated according to regulations. Rabies vaccination is done annually in Serbia. To transport dogs from Serbia, which is now a listed third country, into the EU, they need a corresponding rabies titer. This measures whether there are enough antibodies against rabies in the blood. For Serbia, the titer certificate must be at least 3 months old upon entry into the EU. Since titers can be expensive, not all dogs have the certificate, but it is only done when needed. When a dog is adopted, it can therefore take up to 3 months until it is ready for adoption. Blood is taken from the dog and sent to the lab. This is also the reason why our dogs can be placed or are ready for adoption earliest at 8 months.

About Dolores

What life with Dolores looks like

Dolores is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad in Aachen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dolores, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dolores?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dolores on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dolores if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dolores already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dolores isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dolores and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
