Mixed-breed male dog DON was born around June 2020. The neutered male dog has a shoulder height of 76 cm and currently weighs 66 kg. DON originally came from Bulgaria. He arrived with us towards the end of 2021 after a detour. He has been successfully integrated into a training program, where he has shown a lack of basic upbringing and resource management issues. Towards his trusted people, DON is cuddly, loyal, and playful. In training, he is well-motivated and shows a high level of cooperation. The sturdy male dog displays a typical territorial behavior, but can be well controlled by his trusted people after building trust and clarifying responsibilities. Initially, DON is skeptical towards strangers but adjusts well to his trusted people and can be led confidently in conflict situations – a certain defensive readiness is present. On walks, DON meets fellow animals friendly and open, and can be quickly encouraged to play, which is not the case with every dog due to his size. DON resolves conflicts with other dogs through play and de-escalation attempts. His behavior towards intact male dogs is crucial and determines their liking. When encountering two-wheelers and joggers, DON is curious to cautious but remains approachable and can be led calmly. DON should be consistently led in these situations due to his size and impulsiveness to avoid accidents. For DON, we are looking for dog-experienced owners who can affectionately and consistently handle him and his size. Training models like Apportieren or Obedience could be suitable, as DON enjoys these activities despite his imposing size. However, the sessions should not be too long to avoid stressing his joints. Adequate rest periods are necessary as a counterbalance. A structured home in a quiet environment would be advantageous, preferably in a rural area with ample space and running possibilities.
