Dona

Female · Senior · 11 years

A special dog is looking for her "forever people." The small Pinscher puppy Dona has been living with a foster carer in Germany since December 2025. The foster carer describes Dona as a dog with a strong independence. Dona decides by herself how much and when she wants closeness. So far, the small dog shows a distant behavior towards humans. Also, in contact with other dogs, Dona tends to be overwhelmed. Putting on a harness/collar and attaching/removing the lead currently presents both Dona and her foster carer with a challenge because Dona does not like these actions and clearly shows her reluctance. In the living area, the small dog prefers quiet and even withdraws there. Sometimes Dona seeks out the company of her primary person, but only for a brief petting - Dona is not ready for more yet. We are looking for a permanent and loving home for Dona. It should be quiet and located in the countryside. There should be a securely fenced garden. There will be several tasks waiting for the future home that need to be overcome together with the dog. We wish Dona a quiet and relaxed "forever place." Her home should not have any expectations or requirements for the dog and must allow her to come at her own pace. Dona wants to experience love and respect in the long term, but while respecting her needs. The small dog is not suitable for beginners. We can very well imagine Dona with a single person living alone. Other animals do not have to live in the household. Dona would be happiest as a single dog. If you are the special person for our Dona and want to give her a shared future, then we look forward to your serious inquiry. Adopting a shelter dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also become a challenge. The dogs bring along a backpack of past experiences or situations they haven't learned, and they need time to adjust to their new life. If you have a sincere interest in adopting Dona, please contact the responsible adoption officer. The contact details can be found below.

About Dona

What life with Dona looks like

Dona is a senior dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dona, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dona?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dona on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dona if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dona already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dona isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dona and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
