Donner

Female · Young · 2 years

Even the shy female cat Donner could be secured and, after the mandatory initial period in quarantine, integrated into the group at the cat shelter. She was already microchipped and neutered, but so far no one has contacted us to report missing Donner. The more than shy cat group, in which she now lives, is very harmonious among themselves. Most of the cats show their favorite roommates and – hideouts over time, so also with Donner. Often we find her under the same hideout like, for example, Vitty, Catinka, or Maleika. However, these can be snapshots, as there also seems to be no conflict with the tomcats in the room. We will continue to observe which cats particularly like each other and which pairs form. According to current status, Donner definitely does not have to live as an individual cat. It is currently still honest to say that it is difficult to get to know Donner. When we find her in a hideout, she looks at us with large, frightened eyes and tries to flee. Overall, however, we notice that the group is making progress and hope that Donner will also orient herself to her more courageous companions. In the mornings and evenings, we often see some cats wandering through the garden; sometimes they also curiously observe what is happening in the neighboring garden. All in all, cats like Donner need a lot of patience and experience and are therefore not suitable for living with children. Like their current roommates, we only release Donner in the garden. She stays exclusively in the garden during the day and would not be overstimulated in a suitable for apartment living environment. However, the release into the garden should only be allowed once Donner has been in her new home for a long time. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Donner

What life with Donner looks like

Donner is a large young adult cat waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Donner, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Donner?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Donner on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Donner if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Donner already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Donner isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Donner and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
