Douglas

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Douglas is a multi-year-old dog who entered the shelter on June 11, 2026 from an intervention in the area of Wyciska Street. On that day, during rainy weather, I decided to join a fellow dog. It was thanks to this that someone noticed me and gave me a chance at a new life. It seems likely that I previously lived by a kennel, tied to a chain or harness. I didn't have many opportunities to explore the world or discover that humans can be someone worth trusting. That's why I can sometimes be suspicious and bark loudly at new people. It's my way of saying: "I don't know you yet." But when you let me get to know you and understand that nothing threatens me, I change beyond recognition. I love human contact and happily give kisses left and right. Then I show what I really am – affectionate, devoted and longing for closeness. I'm looking for a home that will give me time to build trust. I don't need much – patience, a calm approach and someone who shows me life can be completely different from before. I'm ready to learn everything I didn't have the chance to know before. I have current vaccinations and deworming. Soon I will also undergo a neutering procedure. Then all that remains is to find a family that will love me forever. Maybe you will give me this dream home?

Wtedy pokazuję, jaki naprawdę jestem – czuły, oddany i spragniony bliskości. Mam aktualne szczepienia i odrobaczenie.

About Douglas

What life with Douglas looks like

Douglas is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Zabrze in Zabrze.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Douglas, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Douglas?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Zabrze handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Douglas on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Douglas if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Zabrze will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Douglas already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Douglas isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Zabrze early rather than rehoming privately; they know Douglas and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
