Douglas

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Young · 1 year

Douglas is currently enjoying his time in a foster home, where he is an absolute dream! He is fully housetrained and super playful with his toys. As a young boy he does have lots of energy, so enjoys his daily adventures and using food enrichment to keep his mind busy. Douglas can be a clingy boy to his favourite people, especially when settling in, so likes to be closely snuggled to you on the sofa or bed. He is currently taking medication to help with some itchy skin, which we are monitoring and will discuss with you in more detail. Add Douglas to your favourites today if you are interested in welcoming this sweet boy into your home. Meet Douglas, a handsome 1 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Chow Chow! Douglas absolutely loves everyone he meets, a real people dog, adores all the fuss and attention he can get. It does mean he likes to know his favourite people are around most of the time though, so will need a long settling in period before he can be left home alone and will then need it gradually building up from scratch. Douglas is excited and jumps up when meeting people, he could share his home with older, primary school aged children, who are confident around boisterous dogs but Douglas does need to be the only pet in his new home. We are currently trying to work on his confidence/reactions around other dogs, so he may eventually be able to have doggy walking buddies, but is currently best walked in quieter areas.

About Douglas

What life with Douglas looks like

Douglas is a young adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Leeds in Leeds.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Douglas, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Douglas?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Leeds handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Douglas on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Douglas if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Leeds will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Douglas already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Douglas isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Leeds early rather than rehoming privately; they know Douglas and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
