Douglass2021 | Bay | Cob | Under 13.2hhWe have made a lifetime commitment to Douglass and this could be at least twenty years – a huge undertaking for a small charity like ours. This commitment can only be made thanks to the ongoing generosity of our supporters. If you feel able to help in any way, with the cost of his care, we would be extremely grateful for any amount you can spare. Or, perhaps you would like to run a fundraiser for him? He needed a passport and microchip, annual vaccinations and castration still needed – all of which stretches our limited funds. We must budget for around £2,500 per pony per year to cover all possible costs, therefore all help is hugely appreciated! Thank you!The story so far...The Horse Crisis almost seems like a distant memory.Horse and pony prices rose substantially throughout the period of the pandemic and continue to hold strong – this increase in monetary value can have a very positive impact on welfare. That said, there sadly remains a dark underbelly to the industry, where indiscriminate breeding continues and we were starkly reminded of this, when asked to take in an emaciated colt, barely of weaning age.Douglass (named after long-time H4H s

About Douglass

What life with Douglass looks like

Douglass is an extra-large adult horse waiting at Here4Horses in United Kingdom.

Adopting a horse is a long-term commitment that almost always requires either land or a boarding stable. The shelter will discuss the horse's training level, vet history, and what kind of work or companionship they're suited for. Expect ongoing costs: feed, farrier, vet, and stabling.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

Paperwork, vet checks and transport rules differ by species and by country. Ask the shelter what is included and what you will need to arrange before you commit.

Frequently asked

Adopting Douglass, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Douglass?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Here4Horses handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Douglass on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Douglass if I live in another country?
Sometimes. Whether a horse can move between countries depends on the species and the rules in both countries, and some species need permits or have restrictions. Ask Here4Horses what paperwork and transport they require, and check the import rules of your country before you commit.
Is Douglass already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
What a horse comes with (vet checks, vaccinations, identification, paperwork) varies by shelter and species. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask Here4Horses directly what is included and what Douglass still needs.
What happens if Douglass isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Here4Horses early rather than rehoming privately; they know Douglass and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
