Adopt Dover

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

DOVER is a dog who has never experienced anything good in his life. He was thrown out of a car in a village in a terrible condition, where he ran around for several days before being caught. He was very scared. Half of his body was hairless, Dover was already suffering from extensive demodex. His skin was painful, sometimes bloody, with a sad look. Putting him in such a condition was a long-term issue that his owner apparently just watched. And when it was worst, he threw him away like garbage. DOVER is an amazing dog. He would eat you with love. He loves humans more than anything and enjoys every moment in their company. With other dogs it's not so good. He is dominant towards dogs, tolerates only female dogs. But probably he would enjoy life the most as a spoiled only child. That would surely suit him. But certainly he also needs training and discipline. He is a smart dog, he just needs a chance. He loves walks above all and even better food. He is easily trainable. 😊 He has great hygiene! He is a super dog. If you are looking for a loyal companion and an active dog for hiking, he is exactly for you. He is suitable for an apartment or a house with year-round access to the yard. He will go to a new home vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. He is located in a shelter in Švábovec near Poprad.

Samou láskou by vás zjedol. No určite mu treba aj výchovu a disciplínu. Je to šikovný psík, potrebuje len dostať šancu. Prechádzky miluje nadovšetko a dobré jedlo ešte viac.

About Dover

What life with Dover looks like

Dover is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Cesta za domovom in Slovakia.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dover, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dover?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Cesta za domovom handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dover on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dover if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Cesta za domovom will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dover already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dover isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Cesta za domovom early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dover and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
