Drako

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Description written by our animal welfare workers: Near the shelter, a landfill was on fire. We hardly believed our eyes when we saw Drako emerge from the ashes. He had crawled out of the remnants, completely black and covered in ash. He is still so small and had to already experience the darker sides of life. The lucky one was initially allowed to settle into a Spanish foster home, where he blossomed, played regularly, napped, and simply got to be a puppy. Now, Drako is vaccinated and "big" enough for the animal shelter, so he has moved in. As a puppy, Drako of course still doesn't know the basic rules of a household, but he was already taught some of these at his foster home. However, there is unfortunately no time at the animal shelter to regularly train every dog, so Drako still has a lot to learn in his new home, such as dog 101, house training, and leash walking. Drako is a young pup who is excited about new things, so we think he will enjoy learning. The perfect happiness is missing just one thing: his family, who will fall in love with him. Where are the loving people who will open their hearts to Drako? Update 23.04.2026: New photos, text update: Drako is now almost two years old in the animal shelter. We took him in at about three months old. It is hard to believe that this so loving dog is growing up in an animal shelter. He walks well on a leash and does well on the street during walks. Age-appropriately, he is active and likes to move around, which is unfortunately rarely possible in the animal shelter. He gets along well with all male and female dogs. Drako is a very intelligent dog, he learns signals very quickly and always listens when spoken to. 08.12.2025: New photos, new video 19.10.2025: New photos 02.09.2025: New video 02.07.2025: New video 06.04.2025: New videos 16.02.2025: New videos 16.10.2024: New videos 26.09.2024: New photo 13.09.2024: New description, new measurements 10.09.2024: New photos, videos Please note:

About Drako

What life with Drako looks like

Drako is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Drako, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Drako?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Drako on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Drako if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Drako already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Drako isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Drako and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
