Friend Another sad story about a dog living in our animal shelter...... 2.5 years ago, Friend came to the animal shelter... We took him in with severe psychological trauma - after the death of his owner, he was a big trouble for the relatives of the deceased. They tried to get rid of him. He was tied to a chain, sometimes he didn't have water or food for days, and on some days he was locked in the shed... to not bother... He came to us sick with demodex and mental disorders, Friend was constantly chasing his tail, biting it and growling at it. In the past one and a half years, we have repeatedly gone through treatment with calming agents, we kept him for a long time on a special diet for dogs with such disorders. But the treatment only gave short-term effect... Peace and happiness come to him only through communication with a person. In those happy and very rare moments when there is time to play with Friend - he comes alive, he joyfully runs next to you, he is happy... But this happens very rarely... When we took him to the animal shelter, we had hope that his story would touch someone's good heart and Friend would go to a family. This did not happen... And the animal shelter for such vulnerable dogs is only making the situation worse, with each day his illness becomes more and more severe. We had such cases in our animal shelter before, but then the dog fully recovered, got used to the animal shelter and the psychological state leveled out. In the case of Friend, it's the opposite, there are dogs who don't feel safe among hundreds of other dogs... this is exactly about Friend. Now Friend is 11 years old. He is castrated and has all vaccinations. He has a veterinary passport. He doesn't have a family... Do we still dream about a family for Friend? Probably not anymore.... Now even young healthy dogs are not needed... and this is an old sick dog...

About Druzhok (Дружок)

What life with Druzhok (Дружок) looks like

Druzhok (Дружок) is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Happy Paw Kirovohrad in Ukraine.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting Druzhok (Дружок), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Druzhok (Дружок)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Happy Paw Kirovohrad handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Druzhok (Дружок) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Druzhok (Дружок) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Happy Paw Kirovohrad will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Druzhok (Дружок) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Druzhok (Дружок) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Happy Paw Kirovohrad early rather than rehoming privately; they know Druzhok (Дружок) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (UK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
