💙 Tough 💙 ANDY (MAR / DRAG) 📍 Location: Ö, Styria, Stainz facility—can be visited on-site at any time 🐾 General Information: • Name: Duro • Age: born March 21, 2020 • Gender: male • Breed: mixed breed 🐾 Health: • Overall condition: healthy • Vaccination status: vaccinated (EU pet passport & microchip available) • Neutered • Weight: approx. 37 kg • Height: approx. 66 cm The descriptions of the dogs provided by the foster homes are based on current impressions from their time on site and do not guarantee the dog’s future behavior or development. 🐾 Character & Behavior: Duro is an absolutely loyal and gentle lifelong companion who has retained his huge heart, his trust, and his boundless friendliness despite his difficult past. In everyday life, he shows an extraordinary affinity for people, actively seeks closeness, and thoroughly enjoys every form of affection and cuddles. This handsome male dog brings a healthy dose of energy with him; he is active, highly eager to learn, and thrilled by any kind of movement and activity. Currently, he’s diligently learning the existing household rules. On walks, he displays curiosity and pulls a bit on the leash due to his eagerness to explore—but he’s already practicing very nicely and cooperatively. Duro also has a very balanced temperament and currently shows no territorial instincts whatsoever. When interacting with other dogs, he demonstrates exemplary social behavior: he gets along wonderfully with both male and female dogs in the pack and is extremely tolerant. Whether he’s compatible with cats hasn’t been tested yet. When he sees children, he’s friendly; however, given his considerable size—about 66 cm tall—and weight, he’s better suited to families with older children, as smaller children could unintentionally knock him over. 🐾 Your Story: Duro has been through a cruel and difficult time. In the past, he was passed around like an object—first bought, then resold, and finally left completely without food or water. All alone and chained up, he waited, weakened and forgotten, for rescue. But fate had good intentions for him: A dedicated volunteer spotted this brave male dog, didn’t hesitate for a second, and freed him from this life-threatening situation. She immediately arranged help, brought him to safety, and ensured he received veterinary care so that today he’s in excellent health again. 🍀 🐾 Duro’s Dream Home: We’re looking for people who can give Duro the love, patience, and stability he so desperately deserves. His new home should be full of enthusiasm for joint walks and active learning. He’d love to join an already existing, friendly first dog. For adults or families with older, steady children, this grateful and gentle giant is an absolutely loyal companion who just wants to feel at home—without fear, without hunger, and without loneliness. 💌 How You Can Help: ❣️ Adopt—Give Duro his forever home ❣️ Offer foster care—Help him start anew ❣️ Sponsorship—Support Duro on his journey ❣️ Share—So Duro can finally find his happy ending 🐾💙 Duro’s Rescue—YouTube Duro loves every single cuddle—YouTube

About Duro

What life with Duro looks like

Duro is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hund sucht Hütte in Austria.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Duro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Duro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hund sucht Hütte handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Duro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Duro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hund sucht Hütte will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Duro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Duro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hund sucht Hütte early rather than rehoming privately; they know Duro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
