adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this cat! Eddie has found a home! His story: Eddie has known no good life. He lived in the "Keller of Horror" – an animal hoarding household without light, no vaccination, no neutering, and scarce food… When the Romanian police became aware, they asked for our help – saying no was not an option. So, Eddie came to us. Eddie is still very shy. He shows himself, even plays a lot, but currently, it's barely possible to touch him. At the vet, he was given basic care, vaccinated, etc. He had lice and a severe otitis, which has fortunately healed. The marks that his life in the cellar left on him. Despite his shyness, he is curious. Whether he can trust humans is still unknown, but he hasn't completely ruled it out yet. Eddie is looking for a patient, empathetic place with people who will give him time and not take it personally if it takes a while for him to warm up. He gets along very well with other cats; he doesn't know life without them. His best friend, Abraxas, is his safe haven. It would be wonderful if the two could continue their lives together in their new home. If there are already cats in the new home, he can also travel to happiness without him – as long as he's not alone. Eddie tested positive for FIV. However, this is no reason not to adopt him if you are in love with Eddie. FIV is a viral disease that can lead to a weakened immune system. Nevertheless, FIV-positive cats can achieve the same proud age as a FIV-negative cat! The virus is only transmissible to other cats; humans and other animals cannot contract it. Transmission could only occur if there are severe bite wounds between fellow animals. A FIV-positive and a FIV-negative cat could live together in a household, share a bowl and cuddle spots, as long as all parties are compatible. Transmission through mating is also possible, which would not be an issue with neutered kittens. So, a free roam is not an option for Eddie. In his travel arrangements, Eddie – like all our cats – is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea treated. He tested negative for FeLV. Of course, he also brings his EU pet passport with him. After a positive test. A foster home would also be a wonderful start for a new chapter for him. Where can Eddie enjoy his golden years? Many thanks to Petra B.! You gave Eddie his name! A big thank you also goes to Sabine and Thomas L. for taking on a monthly sponsorship for Eddie. As of: 06.10. This cat needs outdoor access.

Stand: 06.10.2025

About Eddie

What life with Eddie looks like

Eddie is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Eddie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Eddie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Eddie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Eddie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Eddie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Eddie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Eddie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
