Adopt Edgar (Едгар)

Male · Senior · 10 years

Edgar, a 10-year-old handsome dog from shelter "Gorni Bogrov," standing 60 cm at the withers, is big and impressive, but once you spend two minutes with him, you realize that beneath this imposing stature beats a gentle and kind heart that simply needs calm and rest. Edgar is one of those dogs who have spent almost their entire lives in the shelter. He has been there for nine years - for a large dog, this is almost an entire lifetime. Despite this, he has maintained his calmness and is one of the few dogs that greet people in the kennel calmly and balancedly, patiently waiting for us to put on the leash. He walks beautifully at the pace of the person beside him. He doesn't pull, he doesn't rush. To some extent, we could say that he even enjoys his time outside the kennel - sniffing the grass, ignoring the noise and chaos around him, and turning to listen to the person leading him. It's a true pleasure to walk with such a dog. He shows no interest in other dogs and does not react in any way to their presence. As he is an older dog, many of the other dogs respect his appearance and age and also pass by him without reacting. The years in the shelter and life outdoors have certainly left their mark, as he experiences difficulty being indoors. He shows little interest in people in such an environment - his touch and friendly tone are not able to relax him. When touched, his body is tense, and veterinary examinations will probably be difficult - at least until he gets used to everything. As with any older dog, he needs time and gradual exposure to challenges to relax and understand that human touch does not pose a danger. Otherwise, his stiffness may be a precursor to more dramatic reactions in the future. He travels very well in a car. He gets in with help lifting his back legs and will probably need a larger vehicle, as he prefers to lie down and calmly watch the world from that position. In new places, especially in an urban environment, he tends to have his own opinion, preferring to decide where to go himself. With time and work to build a relationship with his adoptive family, communication in these situations will improve, and he will start following them, as he does now in the shelter. Strengths: Calm, kind, likes to ride in a car, no problem with noisy and busy environments, no problem with other dogs. Weaknesses: Lack of confidence in closed spaces, lack of confidence when touched. Suitable for: Life outside the city, life in an urban environment, a house with a yard in the suburbs, a family with children (over 12 years old). Responsibilities of the adopter: Work with a professional trainer using positive methods and taking into account the stress he has had in his life up to now; if the future adopters have another dog, it is mandatory to meet him with it before making the final decision. If the family has children, it is good to explain to them not to enter his space, not to touch or pull him while he himself does not reach the stage of wanting it. Edgar's profile was composed by Ralitsa Milanova, a certified trainer, with long-term experience in rehabilitation and trauma-informed approach when working with dogs. About Edgar (Едгар)

What life with Edgar (Едгар) looks like

Edgar (Едгар) is a large senior dog waiting at Ecoravnovesie Sofia in Sofia.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting Edgar (Едгар), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Edgar (Едгар)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ecoravnovesie Sofia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Edgar (Едгар) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Edgar (Едгар) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ecoravnovesie Sofia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Edgar (Едгар) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Edgar (Едгар) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ecoravnovesie Sofia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Edgar (Едгар) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (BG). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
