Edith

Dachshund · Female · Young · 3 years

This beautiful girl is Edith! She is looking for a loving home where she can truly flourish. When you first meet Edith, she can be nervous and timid, so she will need patient adopters who are happy to let her settle in at her own pace. Once she feels safe and trusts you, she becomes a wonderfully sweet, affectionate, and friendly little girl with a lovely nature. Edith enjoys getting out for her walks and loves exploring the world by your side. She also adores playing with her toys, although any teddy bears or soft toys probably wont last long as she enjoys pulling them apart! Edith is currently very under-socialised around other dogs and will bark when she sees them. The new adopter will need to be committed to working with her on this in a controlled environment with lots of positive reinforcement. Puppy classes would be great for her. She will need to be the only dog in the home, allowing her to feel secure without the stress of sharing her space. With kindness, patience and understanding, Edith will make a devoted and loving companion for someone willing to give her the time she needs to build her confidence. Previous breed experience would be an advantage. She will need a private secure garden. As Edith came into the home as a stray we have no previous history on her and as she can be a little timid, we would prefer any children in the home to be 14+ years. If you have a holiday booked in the next 3 months please wait until you return to apply for a dog.

About Edith

What life with Edith looks like

Edith is a small young adult dachshund dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Edith, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Edith?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Edith on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Edith if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Edith already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Edith isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Edith and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
