EL GIRO

Male · Adult · 5 years

Our Presa Canario male El Giro came to us in March 2024 because his previous owner was no longer allowed to keep him. He was placed with a new family but returned due to biting incidents with other dogs. El Giro was born on July 15, 2020 and is neutered. Currently he weighs 42 kg at a shoulder height of 70 cm. El Giro is a playful male who is very affectionate with his caregivers. He is initially wary of strangers and shows himself to be vigilant. He also behaves territorially and vigilantly in the garden or on the property. If his new home has a garden, a high fence would be recommended to ensure he does not escape. The new interested parties should have experience with his breed and ideally live in a rural area. They should be able to lead him consistently. He does not get along with other dogs, cats or small animals, so he should be alone in his new home. He absolutely needs a child-free home. It is also important that he has no contact with children outdoors. Due to a cruciate ligament operation El Giro should not have to climb many stairs. An apartment without many steps would therefore be optimal for him. Since El Giro is classified as a Category II list dog in Bavaria, the new owner should inform themselves about the conditions of keeping this breed from their municipality beforehand.

-0Fax: 089/90 73 20E-Mail

About EL GIRO

What life with EL GIRO looks like

EL GIRO is a adult dog waiting at Tierschutzverein München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting EL GIRO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about EL GIRO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein München handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw EL GIRO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt EL GIRO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein München will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is EL GIRO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if EL GIRO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein München early rather than rehoming privately; they know EL GIRO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
