Elan

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 9 months

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Elan is a young, approximately nine-month-old male dog currently in the care of our animal rescuer Diana. We know that he was previously kept on a school premises. It is likely that he did not have much contact with a normal family life there. Therefore, he probably does not know many things about daily life yet and needs to learn the dog ABC. Elan shows some initial suspicion and caution. He prefers to observe new situations from a safe distance. However, he is gradually warming up to Diana and shows that he can trust when given time. He orientates himself to her and allows proximity when he feels safe. He lives problem-free with other dogs and is also familiar with cats. Children are also present in the household, although it should be noted that sudden movements or too much commotion can unsettle him. Visually, Elan is a small, handsome male dog with long dark fur. This fur requires regular care to prevent tangling. Currently, a tangled spot has formed where he has scratched and pulled out his hair. His fur should be cut and regularly maintained soon. Future owners should be prepared to gently accustom him to brushing and fur care and to plan this long-term. With nine months, Elan is still in the middle of the puppy phase and puberty has already begun or is imminent. During this time, uncertainties become more apparent, boundaries are tested, and previously learned things are sometimes re-questioned. His new human should be patient, forgive mishaps, provide clear structures, and accompany him with positive reinforcement. A positively trained dog class can help him gain security and build trust. For Elan, we wish for a quiet home with empathetic people who do not overwhelm him and give him time to settle in. An independent only dog can provide additional orientation, but is not a must. What is important is patience, understanding, and the willingness to work with him step by step. Elan travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated with his EU pet passport to his new home. A foster home could also be a great option for Elan! Who will give this small, cautious puppy the chance to build trust and finally settle in? Many thanks to namesake Andrea, who gave Elan his name and thus a new chance. As of: 15.04. This is a young, adolescent dog.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 15.04.2026

About Elan

What life with Elan looks like

Elan is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
