Elara

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Elara is an incredibly brave puppy mom who was found with her puppies in the winter – just in time. The little ones were nearly frozen, and Elara herself was completely energetic and much too thin, having given all her strength and what she had to her puppies. Fortunately, they were found and brought to safety. Despite everything she had experienced, Elara retained her gentle nature. In the shelter, she shows herself as a loving and calm female dog who easily gets along with the other dogs on the premises. She initially meets strangers with caution and reserve – who could blame her? But how much she longs for closeness became clear quickly when a local German animal rescuer was present: Elara immediately snuggled up to her, enjoyed the gentle cuddles. Elara doesn’t like sudden movements from above and gets scared easily. Considering what she probably had to endure, that is only understandable. But if one approaches her with calmness, patience, and loving caution, she opens her heart and shows her incredibly gentle and grateful side. Her name Elara means, among other things, “the Radiant” or is associated with gentle strength – and that perfectly describes her. A quiet, delicate female dog who, despite a difficult past, has not given up. Her puppies are now old enough and no longer need her. Finally, it’s Elara’s turn. She should not have to be just the strong mom who fights for others – but finally be allowed to experience what it feels like to have her own home, safety, and love. For Elara, we wish for a quiet and patient home with people who give her time to settle in and never pressure her. People who understand her gentle nature and show her that she will never have to be afraid again. Please note:

About Elara

What life with Elara looks like

Elara is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
